The Oldham Academy North prides itself on being an innovative, positive and ambitious learning environment for both students and staff. The recently constructed, state-of-the-art building offers a creative, professional and inspiring environment with the students at its core.
In 2014, The academy further illustrated its exemplary practice with its implementation of the Futures Programme. This unique feature is designed to ensure that all of the students in every year group are developing skills which will set them up for their journey beyond the classroom and into employment. A series of different targets for each year group have been set which the students work towards, ensuring that in their time at the academy, they are developing personally as well as academically. These soft skills are recognised now as being vital for employers. The Oldham Academy North Futures Programme will help promote its core values, which are to succeed in helping the students to ‘believe, create, innovate and achieve’. Baroness Estelle Morris, on her visit to the academy in January 2015, commented that the programme was some of the best practice she has seen in this field.
The Oldham Academy North is proud to celebrate its record within Visual Arts. The faculty achieved an outstanding 95%+ pass rate A* – C GCSE and is widely recognised as one of the best in the country. In 2014 and 2015, the academy also achieved above national results for iGCSE English A*-C. Our progress 8 measures are well above expectation.
Students at the academy are able to make their own choices and are given the opportunity to express themselves within an extensive range of curriculum choices. With a common goal to prepare all of the students for higher education and apprenticeships, Oldham Sixth Form College, Oldham College, Edge Hill University, Liverpool University and Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, are all working closely with the academy. The Oldham Academy North also works closely with local primary schools, offering its students art classes, maths master classes, computing and sports events. This process allows for a smooth and comforting transition which is created for our future Year 7 students.
Alongside the academy’s curriculum, students at The Oldham Academy North thrive within a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. These fun-filled lessons serve to enrich and enhance confidence, development and independence, giving students the opportunity to soar and achieve both personal and academic goals. Lunch, break time and after school classes offer a wide array of activities, ranging from arts and crafts, music, football, netball and computing. During these activities, the students are able to make full use of the brand new facilities which include a sports hall, 3G football pitch, computer provision and a tranquil sensory room.
The academy provides an ideal ecosystem in which teaching and learning go hand in hand – an establishment in which passion and drive among teachers and students is contagious – a platform which champions the ideology of Believe, Create, Innovate, Achieve, ensuring that all students and staff are given the opportunity to apply these four goals in their everyday practice.
"There is a real sense of purpose here".
Baroness Estelle Morris
