Sep 18, 2009
A LEADING Danish architect responsible for award-winning schools is set to provoke debate when she visits EACT’s Parkwood Academy to discuss design options for its new buildings.

Lene Lange is the architect behind the innovative Hellerup School in Denmark, which includes futuristic design aimed at improving learning opportunities and transforming the traditional school experience for students and staff.

EACT, Parkwood Academy’s sponsor, is leading the process of planning and designing the academy’s new buildings which are scheduled to be in place by September 2012.  The Danish architect will deliver a lecture on school design when she visits the Academy on Thursday September 24, between 4 and 6pm.
Principal Chris Mallaband said: “Denmark is leading the world in 21st Century school design, so Lene Lange as one of the leading exponents, can help us think differently about creating a superb new environment for our students.  She understands the impact design can have on education and how design can be transformed by education.”
“We want a building that inspires learning and also acts as a beacon for the community.  I’m keen to encourage new and future pupils and their families to engage in the process because the new academy will be an important part of the local community for many years to come.”
EACT’s Head of Design, Yasmin Sharriff, said:  “As a sponsor we want to create the best environment in which our students can work and learn.  Our academies are also important community resources, and excellent design and facilities will hopefully encourage people living in the neighbourhood to make best use of the new academy buildings.”
Anyone interested in hearing about plans for Parkwood Academy can attend the lecture on September 24, starting at 4pm, on Penrith Road, Sheffield.
