Government ministers throw their weight behind EACT academies
Three cabinet ministers have visited new EACT academies as part of the Government’s announcement of plans to expand the academies programme.
Education Secretary, Ed Balls, visited EACT’s Parkwood Academy in Sheffield and met Principal Chris Mallaband before talking to students and staff and touring the academy.
The Transport Secretary, Lord Adonis, who as education minister worked closely with Sir Bruce Liddington on the development of the academies programme, visited Crest Girls’ Academy in Brent – meeting students and taking part in morning assembly for new Year 7 students together with Principal Bev Bell.
And in Birmingham the Chief Secretary to the Treasury Liam Byrne joined Principal Ruth Harker to visit Shenley Academy, while in Leeds, Minister for Yorkshire and the Humber, Rosie Winterton, joined staff and students at EACT’s Leeds West Academy to mark the beginning of its first term.
