Academy is 'most improved'

Mar 3, 2009
EACT’s first academy, Trent Valley in Lincolnshire, has achieved recognition for its significantly improved GCSE results by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.

The Trust identified Trent Valley Academy after results showed that the number of students achieving five GCSEs at grades A* – C has improved by more than 10 per cent year-on-year.

Elizabeth Reid, Chief Executive of the SSAT, said: “I would like to congratulate these specialist schools and academies for their continued success in raising GCSE results. Their efforts and achievements will mean more young people will have received good qualifications and had their opportunities widened.

“If every young person is to receive a world class education then we must set world class standards that challenge every school to improve year on year.”

Academy principal Tom Megahy welcomed the recognition. He said: “Staff and students have worked hard and the results demonstrate that we are making good progress. We want to build on this and continue to improve.”

Trent Valley Academy opened as an EACT Academy in 2008. It moves to a new £33million building in September.
