Feb 2, 2010
THE Schools Minister, Vernon Coaker, has opened the latest E-ACT academy in Birmingham – The North Birmingham Academy (NBA) in Erdington.
Staff and pupils from the academy, which opened its doors on January 6th, celebrated the official opening in a grand ceremony on Friday February 5th 2010.
The event marked the creation of the latest E-ACT Birmingham academy with VIP visitors including Sir Bruce Liddington, Director General of E-ACT, along with senior representatives from the academy’s sponsors.
During the day the Minister cut a ribbon, and unveiled a plaque in the newly refurbished building. A time capsule which includes messages from students and staff, was planted in the grounds of the new academy building.
NBA’s Principal, Kim Popratnjak, said: “We are very proud to have started the New Year as an academy, and are really looking forward to the exciting plans put in place for the grand opening. This will give everyone at NBA the opportunity to celebrate the hard work put in to preparing for the academy over the last 12 months.”
Sir Bruce Liddington said: “This is our third academy in Birmingham and we are delighted to be making a contribution to delivering an excellent education and new opportunities for our students. NBA will move into a new multi-million pound academy building in 2012. We are making significant investment in the future of education in this area.”
North Birmingham, which has more than 900 students on roll, and over 180 staff, joins seven other new E-ACT sponsored academies across England.
