Biography: John T Hall

John is Chair of Eversheds' national education group. He has been closely associated with the developments in education law, governance and best practice since the Education Reform Act 1988.
His particular area of expertise is giving strategic advice to universities, colleges and schools on managing structural change in the education sector. This has involved John in advising sectoral bodies, including Universities UK and the GuildHE, and in the formulation of guidance for education institutions in connection with the work of the Nolan and Dearing Committees.
John is currently an Honorary Member of the Royal College of Music, the Chair of Crest Boys’ Academy in London, a non executive director a charitable foundation which promotes excellence in teaching and learning, E-ACT, a governor of Lochinver House School in Hertfordshire, and for many years has served on the boards of other institutions in higher and further education. He is also a member of the International Advisory Board of the Center for Excellence in Higher Education Law and Policy at Stetson University, Florida; a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts; and a church warden and trustee of St Paul's Church Hadley Wood in North London. John is a former chairman of the London Young Solicitors' Group, and was for several years Company Secretary of the Polytechnics and Colleges Employers Forum and the Colleges Employers Forum (which became the Association of Colleges).
In addition, John is general editor and principal author of 'Purposive Governance', a publication for further education colleges in England and Wales, and a contributor to 'Higher Education Law' (Jordans, 2002). He lectures widely and has had many articles published in the Education Press. He is the only UK Education Lawyer to have been accorded leading lawyer star status in Chambers Directory to the UK Legal Profession.
