Pupils and staff at Ilminster Avenue E-ACT Academy finished the last academic year on a high, winning a Reading Recovery School of the Year Award.

The awards, organised by the International Literacy Centre, celebrate and honour practitioners who have made an outstanding contribution to children’s literacy through Reading Recovery.

When Reading Recovery was introduced at Ilminster three years ago, it was the start of an exciting journey. The idea behind the programme is to target the lowest achieving children aged five or six, enabling them to reach age-expected levels within 20 weeks through one-to-one lessons.

Ilminster staff have however noticed a much wider impact: across the academy, there is now a flourishing reading community developing with pupils genuinely enthusiastic about reading.

Ilminster Avenue E-ACT Academy was honoured to be one of the 15 schools awarded Reading Recovery School of the Year.
