A News story by Ellena Schuster-Farrell 23 March 2018

After achieving fantastic key stage 2 SATs results back in July, headteachers at Denham Green E-ACT Academy and Ilminster Avenue E-ACT Academy were thrilled to receive letters of congratulations from the Minister of State for School Standards last month.

The Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP thanked staff at both academies for their “hard work and professionalism in producing such high standards”, stating that their results were among the best in the country.

Both Denham Green and Ilminster Avenue, along with three other E-ACT primary academies, surpassed the national average for the number of pupils achieving the expected standard at the end of key stage 2.

Amazing mathematics results for Denham Green

Last year, 92% of pupils at Denham Green achieved the expected standard in reading, writing and mathematics at the end of key stage 2.

Even more impressive is the fact that an amazing 100% of pupils managed to achieve or exceed the expected standard in mathematics at the end of key stage 2, putting the academy in the top 1% of primary schools in England for attainment in mathematics.

“We were so pleased with the outstanding key stage 2 mathematics results last year. For 100% of the children to reach the age-related expectation is a fantastic achievement, and a testament to all of the hard work that goes on in the academy.”Sarah Flannigan, Headteacher at Denham Green

Congratulating Sarah and her staff on this achievement, Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP noted:

“We want to ensure that every child has the necessary fluency in mathematics to prepare them for a successful secondary education and beyond, and your school has provided this to all your pupils.”

Ilminster Avenue top for progress

In 2017 all of our academies in the South West experienced an increase in the percentage of pupils achieving the expected standard. At Ilminster, 89% of pupils achieved the expected standard in reading, writing and mathematics, a five percentage point increase from the previous year.

But it was the academy’s high level of progress that the Minister of State for School Standards highlighted in his letter, praising staff for excellent progress scores of 8.8 in reading, 6.8 in writing and 7.6 in mathematics. These scores put Ilminster amongst the top 2% of schools in England in terms of the progress pupils make between key stage 1 and key stage 2.

“We were absolutely delighted to receive this letter acknowledging our continued outstanding success at Ilminster Avenue. The incredible work of the teaching team, with the reciprocal dedication of our young people to achieve the very best possible outcomes for themselves, is nothing short of exceptional. We are more than proud!” Hilary Dunford, Headteacher at Ilminster Avenue

We’re so pleased with the exceptional key stage 2 results achieved right across the trust last year, and delighted that Denham Green and Ilminster Avenue have received this recognition for the hard work and dedication of their pupils, staff and parents.
