In its first short inspection since the academy was judged to be good in January 2014, we are delighted to announce that Parkwood E-ACT Academy has retained its good rating following its latest Ofsted inspection.

Ofsted on Headteacher Victoria Simcock

Since her appointment in September 2016, Victoria is described by Ofsted inspectors as being ‘unswerving’ in her determination to improve the life chances of her students by ‘raising expectations across the board’.

Inspectors note that students speak very highly of the difference she has made in raising the bar and inspiring them to do as well as they can. As a result, students are now making much stronger progress.

‘You were not afraid to challenge staff and raise expectations to establish your non-negotiable requirements of staff.’Steve Shaw, Her Majesty’s Inspector

Inspectors have also praised the ‘consistently strong teaching’ at the academy, with standards in mathematics having risen and now in the top 20% of academies and schools for pupil progress, and standards in English and geography also high.

Ofsted on progress at the academy

Inspectors note that there is strong progress by most students at the academy across subject areas.

In English, students are developing into confident writers across different year groups, and in geography the teachers’ insistence that students use technically precise language in class has enabled them to deepen their understanding and skills.

Parkwood students are noted as making strong progress from their starting points despite joining the academy typically below the national average for attainment. Furthermore, disadvantaged students and those who have special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities are making swift progress.

Much to look forward to

The bar for a good rating is set high, and as we are all aware the Ofsted framework is extremely rigorous. In the case of Parkwood E-ACT Academy it is a culmination of years of hard work and determination from an exceptional regional team and headteacher in Victoria Simcock.

Parkwood E-ACT Academy is clearly in an excellent position to build on the many strengths highlighted by the Ofsted inspectors. We take this opportunity to thank all academy and trust staff, students and parents for their continuing hard work.
